The group was seen enjoying the music and having a great time at the drag show from the second floor interior balcony of the bar. They also transformed into dancing queens for the night, giving the excited crowd short dances each as the song Dancing Queen by ABBA played. Kyline Alcantara, in a beautiful white mini dress, even encouraged the crowd to sing the chorus alongside her. Some netizens were also able to capture photos with the celebrities.

Filipino fashion designer Chris Nick Delos Reyes also captured some memories from the night, including a dinner date at The Peninsula Manila with Bea and Heart and a selfie with three of the celebrities including Sarah at Apotheka.

The friendships between the four women are truly blossoming and inspiring: Bea said she and Heart just clicked back in 2023 and the two have been supporting each other ever since. A few days ago, Sarah Lahbati’s Instagram featured a ‘life lately’ post, including a selfie with Bea and Kyline. Bea commented, “Love you!” to which Sarah responded with the same sentiment, and Kyline said, “Love you, siz!” and Sarah’s response is as sweet: “Forever, lil sis.”

Back in December 2023, Kyline and Sarah also posted a candid photo together, with the former captioning it, “Celebrating the elegance of womanhood.”

These four women spending time together on a Sunday is not unusual, but seeing them all together having fun in one frame definitely makes for a star-studded night out.

The two piece lace set came with a hood, a homage to the 80s trend of fashion houses like Alaïa in 1986 and revived in 2023. Taking her music festival style assignment seriously, the 21-year-old wore cowboy boots for the occasion. For accessories, she went for gold jewelry which included a nose ring and a chain belt. To complete her whole look, she donned a white Chanel vanity with gold hardware, the same one spotted at the vlog of her best friend, Bea Borres. The Coachella camera did not miss their attendance, panning the camera to her and Lorin during the stage of Lil Uzi Vert. 

It is no secret that Andrea is a big fan of socialite and media personality, Kylie Jenner, and this outfit of hers is quite a twinning moment for the both of them. In 2023, Jenner also wore an all-white hood and dress combo for another music event, that time for Beyoncé Renaissance tour.

On her first day at the City of Angels, the High Street actress debuted her new lob haircut in an Instagram post. Known to mix feminine and sporty in her street style, she donned a red and white gingham cami top, denim mini skirt, and Nike Air Jordan 1 sneakers in Varsity Red. In his movie comeback post-pandemic, Alden chose to work with another Kapamilya artist. This time, he starred opposite Julia Montes for Five Breakups and a Romance. In several interviews, the two fondly talked about their relationship, describing each other as someone who gets the other in terms of personal and professional values. Coming from the actress herself, she marveled at the actor’s genuine care for everyone.

Viva is such a legacy institution,” he says. “It’s one of the pillars of Filipino entertainment, and to be part of it [is] such an honor. Viva will represent me in my career here in the Philippines.”

Further discussing his plans, he explains, “I’ve been creating content for many years. I [want to] take it to the next step. Twelve years after the first Filipino-Thai collaboration of Erich Gonzales and Mario Maurer for Suddenly It’s Magic, the magic of this country crossover makes a comeback through Filipino actress-singer Janella Salvador and Thai actor and top endorser Win Metawin. Under Parallel Skies, their first movie together, is coming to Philippine theaters this April 17.

At yesterday’s grand media conference, the pairing acknowledged the efforts of their director, Sigrid Bernardo, as well as their team, for developing their natural bond on screen. “I was the bridge in their gap,” the moviemaker explains.  

Win also credits the cultural similarities of the countries as an icebreaker to things. “The culture is not really different, so everyone was close during the shoot,” he shares. “It’s easier for us to talk to each other and chat. We get closer every day while we’re shooting.”

“We all did our parts,” Salvador seconds, describing her co-star as “flawless.” On the other hand, Metawin attributes Janella to one word—smart. This made the actress smile. 

When asked about how they could describe their movie in three words, the actors had similar answers. For Janella? “Heartwarming, angsty, and at times comedic,” she says. Meanwhile, for Win, Under Parallel Skies is “a drama with comedic scenes and a whole lot of adventure.”

In an earlier conversation with the “headtone” singer, Janella also discussed the woman-centric narrative of the film. “[With] strong women, people have a notion that they’re just strong. But the truth is, they go through so many things, and what makes them strong are the vulnerable moments that they go through.” 

Under Parallel Skies is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas this April 17, 2024. Meanwhile, it will also be showing in Singapore and Thailand on May 1 and 9, respectively.

These women may be fictional, yes, but their actions can inspire real individuals to be braver in word and action.

The lover girl

Impacting her audience with her time in the love team department, Bernardo, in the identities of Joy from Hello, Love, Goodbye, George from The Hows of Us, and even Nurse Ali from 2 Good 2 Be True taught her audience that loving others means loving oneself. Choosing your own peace is not for the expense of others. If anything, it is a lesson that you cannot give what you don’t have. The self-preserving decisions George and Joy had to make to put themselves and their dreams first seconded that. Finally, as Alison Fajardo, Kathryn marveled the audience with her initiative to look after her own patient Lolo Sir, portrayed by Ronaldo Valdez, with utmost compassion, patience, and understanding. 

The daring roles of Kathryn Bernardo are not just about which one made her wear a darker shade of lipstick or if she ever chose her dream job or her lover. This brave side of hers has simply manifested in her agency to choose characters that inspire her fans and her audience with their decisions. Here’s how her style channels the eras of the singer-songwriter, from her debut album to Midnights. 

Taylor Swift

In her early days, the musician was known for her sundresses and natural, blonde curls. Giving off that youthful energy, Barbie channeled this vibe at the story conference of Maging Sino Ka Man. Pairing her own outfit with natural makeup, the actress went for a fresh, summer look. 

Fearless

We attribute this era with her statement dresses, especially the gold, fringed version. But in this album, we also got the hit “Love Story,” where Taylor channeled Juliet with her “forbidden love story” trope and her corseted gown. Barbie does the same but in a more casual look of incorporating the corset over a white sundress. Indeed, it’s a love story between Taylor and her, and Barbie said yes!

Speak Now

From 2010 to her Eras Tour concert, Taylor kept the magical feel of her Speak Now era with the “Enchanted” dress. From its pink and purple shades to its gold ombre colorway, her dresses have become as timeless as her music. Not missing the chance to have a twinning moment with Miss Americana herself, Barbie also wore a purple dress with floral designs in them. 

Red

Known as the era that captures romance like the primary color—bold, strong, and striking—Red has been leaving stains in our hearts long before its other shades like “Maroon” did. Making a dressier take on this Taylor era, Barbie once donned a white mini dress with red, crystal-crusted heart accents on it. 

1989

Taylor’s version of her 2014 album featured her in a casual tank top and jeans as she enjoyed the seaside breeze. An album that captures growth while reminiscing one’s wildest dreams and risky ride-or-die relationships, 1989 fits into today’s times with that sense of adventure. Barbie interprets that “classic thing that you like” through style in her basic white tank top and denim jeans. 

Reputation

Dark and spark—these are two words to describe the comeback album of Swift after going silent since 1989. Reputation captures her so-called resurrection from her death, her heart beating once more for life and love. Forteza got the bling in black memo with her off-shoulder dress that could fit well into the Reputation era. 

Lover

Sliding through the color spectrum this time around, Taylor explored pastels and a dreamy feel during her Lover era. Taking inspiration from this sweet and romantic style, Barbie wore a cloud-colored dress that gave off a youthful aura.

Folklore

Experimenting with her folk and indie sound after country and pop, Taylor’s folklore was a breath of fresh air at the time of cabin fever. The spring of another era for the singer earned her another Grammy for this album, and she received the award in a floral dress. Donning her own floral interpretation of the frock, Barbie had hers in a sweetheart neckline with a berry red base. 

Evermore

The artist-producer translated her album’s cozy and nostalgic into her choice of fashion for her album cover—a plaid coat in blending shades of black, red, and orange. Barbie, of course, didn’t let this era pass and had another fashion inspiration moment with Ms. Swift. With her own take on the cozy coat, the actress chose one with a more purple tone to it.

Midnights

Known as the last released album from the eras, Midnights captures both the mystery and wonder of the night in different tracks. The first track, “Lavender Haze,” highlights the beauty of the night and day meeting at a point of 00:00. Attributing that midnight feeling with staying still, keeping quiet, and settling in a safe space is what the track captures. In Barbie’s own sartorial language, she donned an Ehrran Montoya design that spoke the “haze” with both flow and structure.

With this revelation, MEGA gives you a few guesses on the roles that got Kathryn’s “next chapter” approval instead of a “chapter closed”:

A Magkaribal Spin-Off

Before her portrayal in the 2010 remake of Mara Clara, Kathryn reeled the audience in with a bolder side of hers in the fashion-centric drama series, Magkaribal. Starring as the young Victoria, played by Gretchen Barretto, the younger actress did a moving scene out of her character’s desperation. If there was an official transition from her child star days to her teen queen glory, this would be it. 

Grown up with Growing Up

The younger versions of the blockbuster actress such as Maya from Super Inggo and herself from Goin Bulilit will remain in our hearts forever. But seeing Kathryn grow up and bloom into a fine, young lady in front of the camera? It truly is a memorable journey for both the actress and her audience. 

Part of her teenage roles was Ella from Growing Up, at the time when she was still a teen herself. Going past these roles and venturing into more mature roles, wouldn’t it be nice to collide her two worlds as she plays an older Ella? This time around, she is the teacher guiding the younger stars on and off camera. While she is the bunso of the family, she can surely be a good older sister to the next generation of stars if ever she reprises her role as Ella in this project.  

Hello, Love, Goodbye…Again?

When the main cast of Hello, Love, Goodbye graced Kathryn’s private Palawan beach birthday bash, fans of the film and the supporters of Kathryn and Alden rejoiced for their low maintenance friendship. It has been five years since the film’s premiere in 2024, and we’re all glad to know that their Hong Kong squad have maintained their good relationship with each other. 

We don’t want to read that much into their reunion, but if this is their way of subtly telling us that they’re jumping back into where they left off, we’ll be gladly watching the next installment of Hello, Love, Goodbye! Will Ethan find Joy in Canada, or will they meet by chance in another country? If the sequel is indeed happening, we can’t wait to say hello again to the crossover reunion of Ignacia’s and Kamuning’s biggest stars.

The actress uses her platform to continuously be vulnerable and brave in sharing how she suffered from depression and anxiety—and how taking part in several mental health initiatives could make an impact to break the stigma surrounding mental health. One of these initiatives is partnering with Yassi Pressman and Liza Soberano in becoming a celebrity investor and partner for Mind You, an online platform that provides easy and cheaper access to therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists to the people in need of them.

Eco-Warrior Nadine

For her active participation in environmental sustainability, Nadine was recognized last year as the honorary park ranger of Masungi Georeserve. She uses her platforms to talk about how people can help in conserving this wonderful habitat, and takes part in initiatives such as tree-planting and tree-nurturing, reforestation programs, and her journey to a vegan lifestyle, which she is embarking on for the welfare of animals and the planet.

In 2022, Nadine also expressed her love for the Siargao island—not just fleeting, but with a commitment to protect, preserve, rebuild the island. SEA Movement announced Nadine as a contributor to ensuring livelihood, securing food, and conserving ecosystems in the Marine Protected Area of General Luna, Siargao.

For her 28th, Kathryn celebrated her birthday in style on a yacht and on the shores of El Nido, Palawan, alongside her family and friends. In a custom Mark Bumgarner birthday suit, Kathryn blew out her birthday candles and enjoyed the fireworks display afterwards.

On sunny days, the dress is just the ticket to an elegant and chic summer ensemble befitting of a birthday girl. The fabric gave the dress a more carefree feel, but the fitted silhouette of the layered skirt, showing off her figure, the one-shoulder strap, and the falling sleeve made the look effortlessly sexy. The white is also a blank canvas for the intricate details sewn onto the skirt such as the seashells and the pearls.

Mark tells MEGA that the dress was actually a birthday gift; the original design was deemed ‘too glam’ as per Kathryn’s stylists Kim and Boop Yap. “Kathryn said she wanted white and a micro mini-dress so she can move comfortably,” the designer shares. “So I made the dress without sending the sketch because I already had a design in mind: an asymmetric micro mini-dress with draped detail on the bottom encrusted with shells and pearls, and an off-shoulder drape to finish the look. It was perfect for an island birthday celebration.”

Mark has been one of Kathryn’s go-to designers and dear friend. One of their most notable collaborations was Kathryn’s sultry silver side-cut gown at last year’s ABS-CBN Ball. In his birthday post, Mark tells the star, “I just wanted to wish you the happiest of birthdays ever! Thanks for being such an awesome friend and muse. Love love love you!”

Truly ever-loved by her family, friends, and the nation, Kathryn is indeed graceful at 28 as she enters this new chapter in her life. Happy birthday, Kathryn!

After captivating the hearts of many as Min Ho in XO, Kitty, Sang Heon Lee is bound to steal more hearts, with Filipinos the main target of the heist. After his breakthrough role in the Netflix series, a project in the Philippines was not in the bingo card of both Lee and his fans. But as good things could come unexpectedly, MEGA had the chance to sit down with the actor in the midst of a busy schedule for his upcoming series. And before we see him on Secret Ingredient with Julia Barretto, he gave us a closer look on who he is beyond his craft.

A passion turned project

In his previous interviews, the 27-year-old would proclaim himself as a foodie, both experimenting on the side of eating and making food. What better way to satisfy his gastronomic cravings than staying in a country whose dishes spoke for its colorful culture? His coming to the Philippines was familiar to him, even though this was his first, and hopefully not the last, project in the country. Like the country, he was also a melting pot of traditions and practices from different worlds being Korean-born and Hong Kong-raised.

Indeed, he had a number of favorites from the array of Filipino flavors. Right off the bat, he mentioned the vegetable dish gising-gising. “It’s so good with garlic rice, and some chicken or beef adobo,” he noted. If you want a rundown of the establishments he was fond of, he gave us a few choices: Andok’s, Chooks To Go, Jollibee, and Mary Grace. 

“I like sisig and street food. Balut. I think the Philippines has a lot of good [choices], especially mangoes,” he concludes.

When it came to getting his hands dirty in the kitchen, it was brought out of the need to explore and experiment. “I can’t always order and go around eating in restaurants,” Lee says. “I’ve grown interested in the flavors [involved in] cooking, in dishes. I just got naturally interested [in it].”

A move to keeping it up

For an artist, underscoring one’s health came hand in hand with not just feeling but also looking good. To tone his muscles and keep himself on the move, Sang Heon Lee would dedicate his time to wall climbing. A sport casually introduced by his friends, it now became a passion enough for the actor to document his climbing activities on Instagram. 

“It’s been two and a half years since I started rock climbing,” he looked back. After trying his shot in the gym for the Korean trend called “body profile,” he wanted to look for another way to move his body. “Ever since that, I stopped going to the gym because I hated it,” he chuckles. 

Spending a considerable amount of time in the Philippines, he also visited a number of climbing spots here. “It was fun, definitely surprising!” he comments. “I was surprised by the heat here. It’s a different vibe here, so I enjoyed that a lot.” 

The secret ingredients to his craft

Wrapping up the interview, we circled back to the reason why he was here—his craft. Now that he is set to play more roles after Secret Ingredient, there are more roles to build. How does he form his characters and even his own mood as Sang Heon Lee? Through music. “I listen to songs anywhere and everywhere I go,” he says.

He would also turn to series and films to build his part as a character in reality. “They inspire me to work harder to become a better actor. [Films and series help me] to become more adventurous and explorative. It’s research. They also motivate me to work harder for this career.” Going into specifics, he emphasizes his inclination to the films of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. “It’s that noir, comedy-action that I love,” he cites.

Truthfully, Sang Heon Lee has a long way to go in his career. But even if he can call this chapter a part of the beginning, he has already picked up lessons along the way. “I think, other than the obvious fact of listening to your parents, listening to your friends, and all that, just try to be you. Don’t lose yourself,” the actor advises. “Don’t be afraid to fail or be discouraged by other people around you. You can’t please everyone. It’s okay to fall because you would have to rise up again. Also, you don’t have to be particularly nice to everyone. Again, you can’t please everyone. Naturally, you just don’t have to be a rude person in general. But at the same time, you have to be nice to everyone.”

It explores the dark side of high school with portrayals of scandals that do happen in real life—from bullying and abuse to drugs and murder. With that, the Senior High creators have ignited the spark once again—and here’s what we know so far.

High Street is coming up high

Dominating High Street are returning lead cast members Andrea Brilliantes, Juan Karlos, Elijah Canlas, Xyriel Manabat, Zaijan Jaranilla, Daniela Stranner, Miggy Jimenez, Gela Atayde, and Tommy Alejandrino. 

During the story conference for the sequel, Andrea Brilliantes says she’s excited but also feels mixed emotions. “If may part two, may pressure to make it as good—or better than the first one.”

Seasoned actors Angel Aquino, Mon Confiado, Ana Abad Santos, Angeli Bayani, Gerald Madrid, Rans Rifol, and Inka Magnaye are also reprising their roles in the series. They guess that the new season is all about higher stakes—the characters are all older, so what happens now—beyond their senior high school?

For the Tim-Poch and RoxChie fans

Zaijan Jaranilla and Miggy Jimenez, who play Tim and Poch respectively, are excited to see where their love story takes them in this new season. “Kailangan natin ituloy ‘yong love story,” Miggy says. “Tingin mo sila [Tim and Poch] pa rin?” he asks his co-star, to which Zaijan answers: “Oo naman. Pinaglaban kita, e.”

Season 1 also saw the romantic storyline of Archie and Roxy—leading them to spend a night together. The show ended with Archie telling Roxy that he was bound for the States just as she reveals that she’s pregnant. To that, Elijah says, “Excited ako na papanindigan ni Archie…” and we cut to Xyriel playfully asking before he finishes, “Papanindigan mo ba?” Elijah answers, “‘Yon ang tanong, kahit ako hindi ko pa alam.”

To the RoxChie fans, we’re all as clueless as these two—and as excited. But Xyriel weighs in and teases, “[High Street is] mas mature. May fatherly or motherly instinct…”

We can’t wait to see where these two love stories take us next.

New faces and new stories

And we also can’t wait to see new stories. Joining the powerhouse roster are new cast members Romnick Sarmienta, AC Bonifacio, Harvey Bautista, Ralph De Leon, and Dimples Romana.

“It’s different jumping into a show na established na ‘yong main characters,” Harvey, the star of the youth series Zoomers, states. “So may pressure talaga, but excited ako kasi ang ganda ng storyline.”

Ralph De Leon adds, “Bigatin ‘yong cast na ‘to, especially for someone new like me. Meydo nakaka-intimidate siya, pero siyempre, it’s a good challenge that we want to take on.”

Dimples Romana also chips in with her guess about what High Street will revolve around: “I guess High Street is on the way to not just showing the struggles, but also showing the victory through the struggles.”

The big question: when is their return to the screen?

Director Lino Cayetano describes High Street as a unique opportunity to make an impact in the lives of the Filipino viewers. When? We don’t know yet—details are yet to be announced. But one thing is for sure: we’ll be tuning in to the story to know what happens after graduation.

It’s not surprising that the local adaption of the beloved Korean drama What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? is delivering everything the fans love about romance, comedy, and more. The “Princess of Philippine TV and Film” has proven her caliber and impressive versatility as an actress, television host, and all-around performer. Right now, Kim is dominating the local television scene in her suits as the ever-efficient secretary of Paulo Avelino’s Vice Chairman Brandon Castillo “BMC”. Dressing the part isn’t as tricky as it seems when it’s designer Jot Losa adding the particular distinct ‘Secretary Kim’ touch.

Creating the Look

“We aimed to create a blend of corporate and tailored aesthetics infused with trendiness, youthfulness, and a sense of fun for Kim Chiu’s portrayal of Secretary Kim,” Jot Losa says in an exclusive interview with MEGA. In true Jot Losa fashion, the designer weaves together sophistication and creativity into Kim’s looks, further cementing his impact in the fashion and entertainment scene.

While Park Min-Young’s Secretary Kim is all prim and proper and Kim Chiu’s portrayal on-screen emanates that exact picture of business, the designer takes this a step further by tapping into Kim’s fun-loving and vibrant personality off-camera. “We didn’t draw direct inspiration from the Korean Secretary Kim’s outfits,” he shares. “Instead, we approached the design process with our own unique vision and interpretation, crafting the outfits to suit the character and storyline independently of the original K-drama.” Just so, as the Philippine adaptation also adds more Filipino touches and culture.

While Kim is all about, “Copy po!” when it comes to the Vice Chairman, she is also in charge when it comes to her looks—putting herself in the shoes of her character. “We engaged in extensive discussions where she shared her preferences and vision for the character’s appearance,” the designer tells MEGA. Together, we meticulously planned every aspect, including silhouette, fabric selection, and embellishments, ensuring that her looks resonated with her character while also aligning with our design aesthetic.”

It’s not far-fetched to say that Kim puts her hundred percent into the characters she plays. On-screen, the actress puts on the show, truly embracing her performance of Secretary Kim as her own. Acting and dressing and thinking the part—that’s the image of a star who truly loves and enjoys her work. With Jot, Secretary Kim truly comes to life.

It’s all in the details

All three of Kim’s ensembles are co-ord sets, which was a deliberate and intentional choice. Every detail is carefully-thought of and chosen to add depth, character, and visual interest. “The co-ords set was selected to provide versatility and ease of styling for Kim’s wardrobe,” Jot says. “By choosing matching separates, we ensured a cohesive and polished look while allowing for mix-and-match possibilities. This approach streamlines Kim’s wardrobe, reflecting her character’s practicality and modern sensibilities while also offering flexibility in styling for various events throughout the promotion.”

In Kim’s pink suit, referencing the Korean Secretary Kim’s sift of pastels throughout her work wardrobe, the designer shares that the heart buttons were a “playful embellishment that reflects Kim’s romantic nature; it infuses a sense of whimsy and femininity and adds a touch of charm to her ensemble.”

Meanwhile, on Kim’s light seafoam suit with crystals decorating her collar and pocket, Jot says the intention was to enhance its elegance and sophistication. “Pearls symbolize refinement and grace, while crystals add sparkle and glamor, aligning with Kim’s polished persona and enhancing her overall allure.”

Last Sunday, the ‘KimPau’ fans were also invited to an exclusive watch party of the adaptation’s first two episodes. Kim graced the event in a custom Jot Losa matching set in pink with roses stitched onto the top’s fabric. “They were chosen to evoke a sense of celebration and romance,” the designer reveals. “They symbolize love, joy, and beauty, capturing the essence of the special occasion and adding a romantic flair to Kim’s ensemble, reflecting her character’s romantic aspirations.”

The first sign? In between her takes for the quick shoot, she is either singing along as a second voice to her own vocal track, or laughing at how she managed to pose well for a photo.

There is no denying that over the course of her career, she has gone through a number of transformations—from sound to style. “Kasama ‘yun ‘di ba? How you present yourself, how you market yourself,” she notes. While there are some types of changes—massive and leading to unrecognizable selves—hers is different. More than anything, it’s the assertion of her core and a stronger sense of herself. She is Sarah G. She is the Popstar Royalty.

The command in her voice

Being a household name and working in the industry for a number of years have its advantages, with trust attributed to one’s name topping the list. For the artist, this meant having more rein over her career today. At the beginning, she brought one thing to the table—her instrument, her voice. “My complete trust was with the producer na. When I was starting, the materials [were] just given to me,” she says.

She recalls further, “I think the first original song that I recorded was Forever’s Not Enough. Si Sir Vehnee Saturno, he brought out the biritera in me. I never thought I would reach those high notes, but he pushed me.” 

Today, Geronimo’s voice was more than just for singing. It was also for deciding how her music would sound like, how the concepts would materialize. “I’m really grateful that I’m given the free rein to decide [on the] materials na gagawin ko, even sa direction ng music, what kind of theme. Very collaborative si Sir Vic [Del Rosario], my manager, kasi binigyan niya ako ng laya to really take control of my music,” she points out. 

The shift in the music scene

From rediscovered releases on TikTok such as Usher’s “Hey Daddy” to viral tracks like BINI’s “Pantropiko” today, the sound waves of music have never been this loud and wide. With this, Geronimo chooses to stay active as part of her constant and consistent desire to acknowledge the changes in her chosen craft. From there, she makes her moves.

“Marami pa akong gustong puntahan as an artist,” she affirms. “I’m very open to doing [different] kinds of [genres.] We keep evolving as people, as artists. [But now,] more than quantity, it’s quality.

If OPM were an archipelago, then P-Pop is now a go-to destination island for makers and enjoyers of music today. For Sarah, she has her eyes on SB19 both as a fan and co-artist of the quintet. Gone are the days that the group is a cookie-cutter iteration of K-Pop idols. As the Popstar Royalty observes, “They found their identity as Filipino artists. Evident ‘yan sa sound nila ngayon—their lyrics, their words, their language. Nakakaproud,” she shares. “Open naman ako sa kanila na I want to work with them and collaborate with them. The feeling is mutual and sana hindi nagbabago. Sobrang galing nila, ha! Vocalists, performers. Iba ‘yung galing nila!”

The specifics of the “Sarah core”

Next to her sound, the singer-producer’s style also goes through evolutions. “Sobra lang akong blessed and fortunate na I’m surrounded by people na talagang excellent in their field. My glam team, sobra ‘yung trust ko sa kanila,” the artist says, directing the focal credit to her team. But the transformation is also of her doing with her willingness to be adventurous and creative with her looks. 

With the celebration of her own achievements, Sarah still feels that her wins, her liberty to express herself, are more than just about her and for her. “Importante na [you] surround yourself with people who will ground you. Hindi naman siya conscious effort, but…people who will make you feel you’re not bad. You’re a normal person, you’re entitled to your emotions,” the singer states. “You have the right to feel these [things]. Tao ka. Hindi ka robot na nagtatrabaho lang. Babae ka din. [That’s one of the reasons] kung bakit okay pa rin ako, kung bakit nandun pa rin ‘yung sanity ko. Syempre, ‘yung faith ko. Mawala na lahat, ‘wag lang ‘yung faith. Mahirap ‘yun kapag nawala, she concludes.

Wrapping up the interview, she ends her time with MEGA Entertainment the way she started it—laughing with joy and beaming with gratefulness. This is the Sarah that will never change, the side of hers that will remain intact after another award achieved and years counted in the industry.

Jake Cuenca

Is third’s time the charm for Jake’s character to finally win Kim’s heart? Beginning their working relationship in 2007 as Audrey and Brandon in Sana Maulit Muli, they worked together in two more teleseryes such as Tayong Dalawa and Ikaw Lamang. The 2009 and 2014 series, respectively, established Jake’s roles with the “second male lead” syndrome. If you’ve watched the original series, you already know how the story will unfold for the actor’s role, Morpheus. Who knows? We definitely have our fingers crossed for Jake and Kim to finally have their endgame moment in another project!

Cai Cortez

From best friend to sister, Cai’s characters in every project with Kim seem to always be on her side. In 2009, the actress-comedienne played the role of Jubis in Paano Na Kaya. She was the best friend who gave Mae, Kim’s character, the tough love that she deserved. 

Fifteen years later, she is playing Secretary Kim’s older sister, Kla. In the original adaptation, she was the more willing sibling to give her approval for Vice-Chairman than their other sister. But who knows? Will Brandon, played by Paulo, be on Ate Kla’s good side in the Philippine adaptation of What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?

Janice De Belen

In 2012, the actresses first worked together in the teleserye Ina, Kapatid, Anak. De Belen played Chiu’s other mother, as their lives were intertwined in  complicated family dynamics. This time around, Janice’s real to reel maternal instincts are kicking in as Brandon’s mother in What’s Wrong With Secretary. The original had endearing scenes between Secretary Kim and Vice Chairman’s mother, and we can’t wait for Kim and Janice to portray that for our own adaptation.

It is utterly impossible not to talk about Filipino talent in the subject of Miss Saigon. From the impact of 17-year-old Lea Salonga playing the heroine Kim to the moving interpretation of Rachelle Ann Go as Gigi, the musical did not only shed light on its original themes and tropes but gave a platform for Filipino talent to be globally recognized. The 34-year-old show has been a familiar experience for Filipino artists and audiences combined, almost like a homecoming. 

And indeed it is one for the Filipinos of the Australian tour who are stepping unto the stage together. Homecoming has its arrays of meanings, but each is an experience worth telling. With that, here are the stories of Miss Saigon’s Seann Miley Moore, Kiara Dario, and Abigail Adriano.

The Filipino roots across time and history

Filipino-Australian Abigail Adriano is Kim both in the Sydney and Manila—the lands that are bounded in her blood. “It’s definitely such an overwhelming, emotional homecoming for me. I haven’t been in the Philippines for 14 years,” she remarks. 

Like any character, Kim has complexities further established by conflicts between fate, people, and even with herself. But for the 19-year-old, the role’s feminist perspective is worth the discourse. “I think an empowered woman is not necessarily what we see [in other views] where it was about no longer being in the kitchen. Kim, as a mother, is empowered. Choosing to be a mother is empowerment, it’s feminism.”

As the Kim of this generation, Abigail hopes that her own take of the role will inspire audiences, especially the youth. “The best part of playing Kim is representing people. It’s special having girls like me to watch the show and inspire the new generation.” 

A mother and child land

Cameron Macintosh’s Australian production of the Tony and Olivier musical places an importance of representation and diversity in its casting, with Seann Miley Moore at the forefront as the engineer. No, scratch that. “Enginqueer” as they would with full energy and ownership. We give credit to where credit is due for their love for music and queer assertion, but these things are also part of the Filipino culture that resonate with Moore’s bloodline. 

“I’ve definitely felt a separation from my Filipino heritage been living in Australia. I think it’s a full circle moment for me to really [be] back in motherland because I have Pinoy blood and to really experience my home that is part of me. All I can say is I am grateful to be here and to star in Miss Saigon which has so much significance for Filipino theater and Filipino talent. So I’m ready to give you all of me as I perform,” they open up. 

Before their eight-week run begins, Sean and their mother have been making the most out of their Philippine stop. How? Kicking things off with a short vacation in Boracay.

“I got the Boracay tan, baby!” they say proudly with a laugh. “I saw my mother in her element! She grew up here. She lived here. Just to see here converse, walk the walk, talk the talk, was just a beautiful thing. Boracay was beautiful. I felt like a Pinoy Princess!” Moores shares that they had Calamansi shake every day, devoured spamsilog for breakfast and tinola for dinner. 

To Sean, this was not just a full circle moment for himself, but also for their mother who raised them. 

Coming home to womanhood

For Kiara Dario, playing Gigi is a form of liberation for her own womanhood. Knowing what the role entailed, she understood the commitment it would take to play the role. She says, “I warned my whole family, especially my friends who have never experienced watching the show before. This is what I’m going to wear. This is what I’m going to do.” 

Sharing her own interpretation of her character, she explains, “People think of it [playing the role of Gigi] as a controversial thing. But for me, it’s just that they’re women who have bodies. The sexualization of the show shouldn’t be seen as a dirty thing.”

This isn’t the first time Kiara has showed true Filipino talent on stage. Outside of theater, she is also part of a P-pop group composed of four talented young Filipinas called Daydream. Despite the rules and expectations that normally comes with being a female “idol”, Kiara is making it known that she is following her own path. “It’s an amazing, liberating feeling coming into this because growing up in a very modest and conservative upbringing, it’s amazing to be able to break those conditioning that I’ve experienced as a woman in the Philippines,” she shares.

“Gigi is angry. Gigi is aggressive. She can be mean. She’s very proud of her sexuality and she likes the attention and she feeds off of it. She likes money! I think Gigi really shows that there’s no one type of way to be a woman,” she concludes, affirming her deep connection with the role. 

Filipinos at Miss Saigon

The portrayal of Abigail, Kiara, and Seann comes with consciousness of how the show, and even the art of theater itself, is more than for its own sake. 

Moore says, “The power of theater is to make you wake up, look at your life, and do something about it. That’s what we’re doing. We’re telling real stories and that’s a privilege and also, it means so much more because they’re real stories.” 

Adriano seconds, “We still live in a world where the political climate is so just as intense as it is. The plight of immigrants is still there. Even after 50 years, we’re still repeating the same mistakes. The power of theater is to make sure people listen to our story and it doesn’t continue.”

During a night event where fashion and entertainment meet, Pia met a range of superstars: SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu, ENHYPEN’s Ni-Ki and Jungwon, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa. Moving past their 2019 issue, the two are finally on speaking terms, after almost five years, at star maker Johnny Manahan’s “Night of 100 Stars.” Netizens were equally shocked and happy at the stolen video of the two, even giving remarks such as “The world is healing” and “Happy women’s month.” Indeed, those two statements fit their reconciliation.

As a child star surrounded by family members in the industry, Julia is no stranger to the world of show business. Early 2010s: Their shared stages

For a time, both Bea and Julia had their “ASAP It Girls” moments at the variety show, performing along with the brightest stars of their respective generations. During their time under the management and the network, they would be part of productions from time to time. Of course, their own careers would also prove that they both excelled in acting, whether for romcoms or drama series and films. 

Late 2010s: Their first project

Extending their ASAP appearances till the late 2010s, the two even had bonding moments together during the ASAP in Toronto show in 2017. In that same year, they finally had the opportunity to work together for A Love to Last, where Bea played Julia’s stepmother in the show. 

The year seemed to be a special one for the paths of the two actresses with MEGA as part of their story as well. Both Alonzo and Barretto became a cover of MEGA Stories: The Philippines’ Most Iconic. Acknowledging their contribution and impact to Philippine media, they were two among the 25 chosen women in the industry of show business.

2024: Their long-awaited reunion

From the same path that brought them together, who knew that it would also be the one to unite theme? Bea Alonzo and Julia Barretto were finally spotted hanging out together at the “Night of 100 Stars.” From passing a shot glass to Bea, to holding her arm while whispering something to her ear, it looked like the two were genuinely happy to have reconnected. In response to Julia’s actions, Bea accepted the shot glass and even laughed in response to what Julia was saying to her. They were later on spotted near each other at the group photo, with the younger actress hugging her aunt, Claudine. Meanwhile, Bea was beside Mr. M.
